It is with great sadness that the department announces the death of Theresa "Toby" Barkan Willits.  Toby recently told former Department Chair Patricia Stuhr, that her Art Education family "meant the world to her" and we feel the same about her.

Toby and her son Joel established The Manuel Barkan Endowed Fellowship Fund on August 30, 1995. The annual income from the endowment is used to support the dissertation research of one or more graduate students in the department.  Until recently, Toby attended the annual award luncheon to honor the award recipient as well as the legacy of Manuel Barkan.  She will be dearly missed.
