Multidisciplinary artist, Rashaad Newsome, comes to The Ohio State University for a two-week residency! Learn about Rashaad’s body of work, which blends artmaking practices like technology and AI, collage, sculpture, film & video, animation, photography, music, and performance. Rashaad's work mirrors the intersectionality of lived experiences, providing a powerful lens through which to explore the complexities of identity. His creative practices generate critical responses to the social and cultural needs of society.
Rashaad Newsome (1979- ) is a Black, Queer, American artist who blends varying dynamic artmaking practices such as collage, sculpture, video, music, artificial intelligence, and performance. Newsome’s practice draws from diasporic traditions of improvisation to produce counter-hegemonic work that is both a social practice and an abstraction of ideas. Newsome holds a 2023 Doctoral degree in Fine Arts from the University of Connecticut and a 2001 BFA in Art History from Tulane University. His work is exhibited worldwide in numerous public and private collections.
