Portraits of Somali Role Models Dublin Arts Council will present Urur Dhex-Dhexaad Ah: Community In-Between, a photography exhibition featuring 15 central Ohio Somali trailblazers, as the first iteration in a three-year project exploring immigration, integration and identity. Portraits created by two female Somali high school students and other community photographers will be accompanied by written and video personal narratives, artifacts and oral histories delivered by augmented reality.Featured role models include a Rhodes Scholar, an anesthesiologist, an inventor, a filmmaker, a poet, a psychologist and more. All are first or second generation immigrants who tell their stories of family history and integration as New Americans.Urur Dhex-Dhexaad Ah, which translates to “Community in Between” from Somali, is presented in collaboration with guest preparators Ruth Smith and Qorsho Hassan. The photographs and stories will also be available during the exhibition via a book published by The Ohio State University Press.An accompanying series of monthly community conversations are being presented August through November in collaboration with Ohio History Connection to address topics including education, mental health and wellness, integration in political action, identity and more.
