Debra is a PhD candidate in the Arts Administration, Education and Policy program focusing on Art Education. Debra received her BA in Art History with a minor in Community-Based Art Education from the University of Illinois in 2013 and her MA in Art Education with a specialization in Museum Education from the University of Texas in 2015. Debra has taught in a variety of settings, including art and children’s museums, community centers, adult workshops, and K-12 schools. Her current research focuses on the legacy of Dr. Margaret Burroughs, a Black art educator, artist, and museum founder from the South Side of Chicago and what her legacy can bring to the history of art education.
Fun fact: Debra loves camping and cycling and is hoping to bike the entire Ohio-to-Erie trail before she graduates.
