The GISFA is open to graduate students in creative writing; music composition; music performance; dance; theatre, film, and media arts; and all fields of visual art, including design. It is also open to graduate students in other arts-centered disciplines, such as Arts Administration, Education, and Policy (AAEP), History of Art and Comparative Studies who have an established artistic practice.

If you are interested in the program, simply contact one of the GISFA co-directors, Tom Dugdale or Richard Finlay Fletcher, as early as possible in your graduate education, to let them know of your intentions to pursue the specialization. Any graduate student whose admission to OSU was based on a portfolio submission and/or audition may pursue the GISFA. Students not admitted to the university through portfolio submission or audition (i.e. AAEP students) should discuss with Professor Dugdale or Professor Fletcher their reasons for pursuing the specialization. A student’s regular faculty advisor in their “home” department, as well as the GISFA co-directors, can assist in planning a GISFA course of study.

The forms necessary for undertaking, and graduating with, the Graduate Interdisciplinary Specialization in Fine Arts can be accessed on GRADFORMS. Successful completion of the GISFA will appear as a designation on your transcript.
