Licensure-Only Program

The department offers a Licensure Only option for those who already hold a BFA or BA in an art-related field. Completion of this two-year program does not result in a second degree; rather it prepares the student for gaining licensure in the state of Ohio. Successful progress through the Licensure Only program includes educational coursework, classroom observation, and pre-practicum and practicum experiences. Although this is a non-degree granting program, it is approved for financial aid because it prepares students for a professional license.

Student Teaching Placements in Art Education

Art Education students are required to complete two 7-week teaching practicum experiences during which students are expected to assume all responsibilities of the cooperating teacher. As tied to the rigor of our practicum program on their first attempt, 100% of our class of 2015 Bachelor in Art Education graduates passed the new State of Ohio Teaching Performance Assessment to earn P-12 Four Year Resident Educator Teaching Licenses. Students have completed placements in the following sites, which are diverse in their student populations, programming, and community resources.
