Ruth Smith Photo

PhD alumna Ruth Smith captured the attention of Central Ohio's ThisWeek Community Newspapers and the Columbus Dispatch with her photography project, "Urur Chex-Dhexaad Ah: Community In-Between," now on display at the Dublin Arts Council

Urur Chex-Dhexaad Ah: Community In-Between is a photography exhibition featuring portraits of 15 central Ohio Somali trailblazers created by two female Somali high school student photographers and accompanied by written and video personal narratives, artifacts, and oral histories delivered by augmented reality. The exhibition will be on view at Dublin Arts Council, 7125 Riverside Dr., in Dublin, Ohio now through November 3rd, with a forum taking place on November 2nd. Dublin Arts Council will host student workshops during the exhibition. A series of community conversations beginning in May, presented in collaboration with Ohio History Connection, will address topics including new American artmaking, mental health and wellness, integrating new Americans with law enforcement and more. The photographs and stories in this exhibition will also be available in book format from The Ohio State University Press.

The Dublin Arts Council is presenting Urur Chex-Dhexaad Ah: Community In-Between in collaboration with Smith and Qorsho Hassan, guest preparators. The exhibition is free of charge. For more information about the exhibit, visit the exhibit's page on the Dublin Art Council's website.
