It is with heavy hearts that we share AAEP’s own Arthur “Art” Efland, Professor Emeritus, passed away on April 11th at age 90. Dr. Efland joined the Art Education Faculty at The Ohio State University and retired from the department in 1996, continuing to participate on graduate committees for many years afterwards. He made a profound mark on the field of art education with several accolades and accomplishments, including but not limited to being named a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Industrial Arts in Helsinki, Finland; holding several visiting scholar appointments; and receiving several NAEA awards which included the June King McFee Award, the Manuel Barkin Award, NAEA Distinguished Fellow, and the Lowenfeld Memorial Lecture. Dr. Efland is remembered as an all-around humble and kind individual who was devoted to his life as an art educator. He is survived by his wife Jenny, son David, daughter-in-law Amy, and grandson Eric. Due to the current international health situation, there will be no memorial service.
